The first traders from the Tholian Hegemony to do so land in New Lhasa. O'Reilley invites Jo Hillback out, and she agrees - as long as she can bring boyfriend and O'Reilley's political rival, David Heart. The bacteria that infected the Deepwhale seem, on a cursory investigation, to be the same as a common Bacterium that correlates with the incidence of the New Lhasa Syndrome. Jo arrives at Ashok Quayn's restaurant without Representative Heart, and later explains they split up. O'Reilley chooses not to seize the moment, and beats his desk a few times when he hears they got back together again shortly afterwards.
