A Starfleet team exploring some of the microfilaments that lead between the caverns below is ambushed by some of The Antecedents' automated defenses - Dr. Baraguile and an Lt. Verr are seriously injured. Loras takes over, and pushes forward to discover the bodies of Tholians and make contact with (or via) a talking hovering sphere which claims to be left from a previous conflict with the Tholians. Loras' impulsive behaviour convinces Pellam he is not on the Tholians' side, and wins a degree of trust from Pellam.

But Loras' assault on Yaimuno has not been forgotten, and the New Lhasan justice system sentences him to a few weeks in prison.
