212 Journey to Qu'onos

K'ral joins the long Klingon passenger shuttle to Qu'onos, accompanied by Kath'lar and Loras. Loras is continuing to experiment with the Klingon way of life. M'Kress takes the same shuttle, in order to a celebration at her father's house. During the journey, she abandons her Vulcan vegetarianism, and acclimitises her stomach to Klingon food. Kath'lar ridicules her for picking at her food, but she does acclimitise. Loras does not, and is ill for the course of the journey.

M'Kress meets the singer K'noff, who already knows the song of her duel with the twelve Klingons. He wants to compose a story about M'Kress conception, but M'Kress rebuffs that her father would not wish it performed. He also auditions her singing voice.

K'ral spars with the sage K'noff, and M'Kress, as well as some of the other Klingons present on trip. (Although Kath'lar refuses to watch him duelling with M'Kress.) During the sparring, K'ral gets continually worse, and Kath'lar assumes it is because he is drinking. He agrees to, as what he calls "one of her little experiements" drink less.

When M'Kress and K'ral discuss K'rals' reasons for voyaging to Quo'onos, she tells him that were her father here, these duels would be for real. As K'noff knows, Quilain and Jej'vagh are rival houses.

Meanwhile on New Lhasa, Petersen informs Cmdr. Quayn that her husband, being a security risk, cannot be in the Starfleet premises unescorted. She accepts this. Later, the Quayns send out wedding invitations.

After a few days, K'ral is getting worse rather than better. It is getting easier for M'Kress to defeat him. Kath'lar accuses him of drinking too much, but he denies it. Starting to spar again, he fumbles and drop his Bat'leh.

M'Kress uses her tricorder to cofirm the absence of heavy drinking - and a neurological anomoly. They take him to sick bay, but the ship's tricorder sputters, smokes, and dies when turned on. It takes the two hostile scientists an hour to scan the fidgiting patient with a standard tricorder. M'Kress sends the result to a starbase.

A particularly suspicious Klingon informs M'Kress that an encrypted message has been received - K'ral is suffering from a Romulan viral agent.

K'rals companions assume this was done by House Mauro to assure them of victory in the fight. When they arrive at Qu'onos, K'ral obtains a cure from the an overstretched UFP medical mission. Analysis of the poison indicates a Romulan origin, and K'ral remembers being bumped into by a Vulcan that matched the description of the Romulan spy (from "The Enemy you Know") Silak. It appears that the House of Mauro are now in alliance with the Romulans.

After arriving on Qu'onos, K'ral's companions manage to convince the overstretched UFP medical facility there to administer a cure. But the cure will take time, and is unlikely to have completely defeated the virus before the duel.

Something else must have happened in this episode, but it's over a year since we played it. M'Kress paid the metagame penalty for ignoring completely her Vulcan Code of Honour.
