Season Two

215 Them that asks no questions isn't told a lie

Following on from the death of Miriana, George sends condolences, and Ashok and Lyranna talk.

Merif causes a major embarassment to Starfleet. The courtyard at the junction of government and Starfleet buildings is a common location for political protest, and protesters over the alien artifacts and the Tholian near-invasion enage him in conversation. (He grew up in a temporal distortion on the beta quadrant and never went to Starfleet, so is somewhat lacking in political judgement.) He referred to it as a "something we covered up", causing a major embarrassment to Starfleet.

A planetary council Xenoarchaeology committee, inquiring into the incursion by Jem Had'ar and ostensible Tholian near-invasion that stemmed from the artifact, summons Lyranna to give evidence. In her grief-stricken state, she convinces the committee to accept a written report. They insist on questioning other members of Starfleet, including M'Kress, Sila and Jackson.

Meanwhile, Dr. Baraguile uncovers a surgical technique from the research literature that has restored telepathy in similar cases. He tells Lyranna. After discussion with the EMH, and Dr. Baraguile on Betazed, and they decide it could work.

M'Kress discovers more information about the wormhole.

The inquiry interviews other members of Starfleet, as well as Heraza - the deputy governor who led the planet at the time. Starfleet personnel are under Admiralty orders not to release information about the portal because of the strategic importance it lends to New Lhasa. The committee uncovers the existence of the first, destroyed, portal, but not the subsequent sites. Public anger rises at the cover up.

The committee agrees with Lyranna Quayn that deputy governor Heraza ordered the secrecy surrounding the portal site, and the incursion. This is a major political setback to Heraza.
