Nausicaan Trader: You break, you buy. You not buy, you break.

Lyranna and Mariella discus Kal Orioli’s appointment and Petersen’s actions. Ashok Quayn is formally declared dead. Lyranna persuades Starfleet intelligence to consider sending an extraction team to retrieve Ashok’s mother on the ground that she may have useful information about the Orion Syndicate.

The Ionic Catalyst loop on Merith’s shuttle is damaged so he goes to the spaceport traders to buy a replacement.. He speaks with a Nausicaan who gives him the address of a shop in Refugee Camp 5.

Mariella visits Helen Farringdon at her school. She hears rumors that the New Lhasa Syndrome vaccine is causing people to get gastric ulcers. While she is there one of the nearby residents, is taken ill and she is asked to assist. The problem is an ulcer and the residents blame it on the vaccine. She tells Lyranna about the rumors asking her to pass the information on to the NLS research project. Lyranna tells her about Ashok’s death and they start deriding Petersen again.

Mariella conducts some private research into the incidents of Gastric ulcers, looking at the pattern of incidents and the scan results of the woman she had treated. All the victims were in camp 5 when they fell ill, but show no other connections. The scan results reveal an unknown microbe in the woman’s gut which contains the antigens sites the NLS vaccine reacts to.. She asks Lyranna if she would like to accompany her to Camp 5 to trace the source of the vaccine. While there they are attacked by a gang of muggers. Lyranna fights them off but they snatch Mariella’s tricorder as they run off. Merith sees the muggers running off and trips the one carrying the tricorder. They muggers are handed over to Civilian Security.

The trail leads to a container lying on waste ground containing a nutrient solution. They call in the biohazard squad.

Later the Vulcan scientist currently heading the NLS Project explains that the processing plant that was producing the microbes has been traced and closed. The Destiny movement is believed to be behind the production.
