Q (on Quayn): He's a slimeball!
(Stadi slaps him)
Q: Ouch! And ouch again!

After discussion with Stadi, Veltr'a secretly sends Reinhardt and Petrach to infiltrate the Terabians. Captain Horah-Morash returns to active duty. Whilst M'Kress is meeting the Captain to suggest charges should be arraigned against her over the duel, she is told that the portal in the newly discovered alien cavern has activated. Before security can assemble there, a humanoid carries a borg through the portal, and leaves.

Security restrain the borg to find that it is drugged semi-conscious, and only partially assimilated. It is beamed into containment in sick bay on the USS Stevenson. Then Stadi recognises it - as her imzadi and fiance, Lt. Kal Orioli, who was believed lost at Wolf 359. Stadi excuses herself to come to terms with the revelation. Petersen suggests putting Lt. Orioli into stasis so he can be studied before de-assimilation by Starfleet, but Horah-Morash chides him.

Stadi tearfully confesses the situation to Quayn, and tells him she would stay with Quayn rather than return to Orioli.

Sila and M'Kress slowly piece together what happened at the portal. The humanoid was human, wearing the uniform of a Starfleet Captain, but his DNA scan doesn't match anyone at Wolf 359. The atmosphere, temporal discplacement, and other features of the portal are consistent with the other end having been inside a borg cube at Wolf 359. Eventually, they manage to generate a picture of the unknown humanoid's face, and Stadi recognises him.

Q.

(Stadi had met Q a few times previously, when he was pestering the USS Darwin. Most recently, during her last real holiday, when he pretended to blow the ship up with Stadi and everyone else on it.)

Someone speculates that Q is probably listening in on their discussion, and he appears in the Captain's chair. (Horah-Morash is displaced to the ops room, and makes his way back into the room.) Stadi tells Q to get out, and he teleports both of them to the last place she saw Lt. Orioli - Snowdonia, on Earth.

Stadi asks Q why he is doing this. He says to show what she was missing, and criticises her current choice of partner. What is wrong with him? He's a slimeball. She slaps him, and insists on being taken back.

Back in the officers meeting room, Veltr'a attacks Q, who temporarily turns him into a rabbit. M'Kress convinces Q that he has done what he came to do, and Q leaves. M'Kress comments out of the blue that the ears and antennae were in the same place, and Veltr'a tries to hit her. M'Kress smoothly ducks back and nerve pinches him. Veltr'a wakes up in the brig.

M'Kress visits Veltr'a, and Veltr'a gets an apology, and a promise to apologise to everyone she made the ears remark in front of.

A couple of days later, when Kal is deassimilated, Stadi sees him. She explains the time gap, and that she loves someone else now. Kal has felt that they no longer have the imzadi bond. He accepts her rejection, and leaves for Starfleet, ignorant of for whom he was rejected.
When omniscient beings start showing up to criticise your taste in men, shouldn't you listen? The fake destruction of the Darwin, Stadi's previous ship, happened in a false Dominion-occupied future created by Q for fun. It was also the climax of the USS Darwin campaign.
