Season Three

310 Right of Vengeance

George Petersen and Mariella Torrelan are checking over the Stephenson at the Tekindus shipyards for testing before the final repairs are made. Lyranna has journeyed to the shipyards as part of a process of desensitisation to the place where he miscarriage occurred. Petersen is on the Bridge checking systems. As Lyranna enters, Petersen’s console starts making increasingly frequent beeping sounds and the Red Alert sirens go off. Lyranna leaves hurriedly. She meets Mariella in the docking corridor and they leave the ship together, going to "The Engineer’s Locker", the Tekindus shipyard bar. There are two Romulans in the bar, observers from the damaged Defiant class USS Indomitable. Lyranna and Mariella sense hostility from the younger Romulan, so leave and head for Lyranna's temporary quarters.

Meanwhile, the Tekindus ops have gone to Yellow Alert due to the Red Alert on the Stephenson. Commander Tor takes some engineers to look into the problem on the Stephenson. They head to the bridge where Petersen apologises for the feedback loop that set off the alert. Tor cancels the yellow alert and returns to Ops.

Back in the bar, Sivalyar Tor, the Deltan commander's wife, gets up to walk away and falls over. A medical team - consisting only of nurses - is ordered to the bar. Tor is informed, and asks Dr Torellan to assist. Tor arrives at the bar and tries a Deltan healing technique, which helps a little but is not enough to stabilise Sivalyar’s condition.

Sivalyar is taken to the sickbay. Between them Mariella and Lyranna slow down the progression of Sivalyar’s condition and diagnose a prion cascade disease. Lyranna recognises it as a technique often used by the Romulans. But Starfleet does not know of an antidote.

Tor returns to the bar intending to use his Deltan pheromones to befriend the Romulans in order to gain information. He returns to the Indomitable with Nakeya (a middle-aged female Romulan) to feed her "Death-by-Chocolate" cake. She offers him a Romulan dessert, which he pushes top one side before kissing her.

Petersen leaves the Stephenson and heads to the bar looking for contacts for equipment and general networking towards the goal of rescuing his mother. He is trying to get into the underground. In the aftermath of Deltan pheremones, Tarab the young male Romulan and a female human engineer are kissing in a corner and a few people are nursing bruises. He speaks to a Tellarite woman with a broken arm.

Lyranna and Mariella put Sivalyar in Stasis. Mariella asks security to round up the two Romulans while Lyranna goes to the Indomitable to fetch Tor. Security overrides the door but Lyranna recognises the pheromones and orders the door shut. Tor emerges and asks what the problem is. After he is updated on the situation he orders the room filled with anesthezine gas.

Base security arrest Tarab, by now, free of the pheremone effect, and bored, in the bar. Petersen enquires into their reasons they reply that they have orders to arrest the Romulan on suspicion of poisoning Sivalyar Tor.

Nakeya's Romulan dessert passes analysis at sickbay.

Petersen talks to Tarab in the Brig but gets no real information. Tor orders that everyone be given a blood test, ostensibly to check for changelings but also to check for Romulan infiltrators. He also orders the area checked for cloaked ships. He admits to having Romulan enemies and believes himself to be a target.

Petersen scans the bar for any residue of the prion infective agent but finds nothing. Lyranna scans the Romulans with the same result. Tor tries to explain the arrest as "protective custody", moving them to larger quarters.

Nakeya recovers from the gas and asks what has happened.

Mariella uses the computer to look into previous cases of the same disease. All the cases in the past have died although a common vascular reagent called Dimethazine did seem to slow down the effects.

Tor contacts the Romulan Star Empire and gets passed through various aides. Eventually he reaches Sub-Commander Gizan. He explains that he has Nakeyah and Tarab in protective custody as he wants to ensure their safety if his crew decide to take matters into their own hands. He asks for any medical information available regarding the infective agent. Gizan replies that Tor’s personnel should be kept under control, and cuts him off.

The Empire contacts the Romulans - Tarib takes the call. Petersen works his way through the Shipyard’s quarters scanning for the Prion agent. Tor is given the results of the blood test that show that Mariella is half-Romulan. He orders that she join the other Romulans in protective custody.

Lyranna arrives in sickbay to assist in the research. Mariella tells her what she has found so far. Security arrive to place Mariella in protective custody but Lyranna vouches for Mariella. She is allowed to continue the research, supervised by security, in sickbay. The scans for the prion infective agent are extended to the Indominatble.

Tor updates the Romulan Star Empire on the "third Romulan". Petersen finds some traces of the prion in Tor’s quarters, which may indicate that Sivalyar was given the prion agent some time ago. The Empire sends information on the antidote, which Tor passes on to Lyranna. She transfers it to the sickbay computer for her and Mariella to test.

They also send information to Tor identifying Dr. Torrelan as the rogue Tal Shiar assasin "Dara Zentrell". Tor sends security to arrest Mariella for attempted murder. Lyranna informs Captain Horah-Morash of Mariella’s arrest. He says he has confidence in her.

Petersen runs into the two Romulans in the corridor. Tarab hands him a hypospray, orders him to swap it with Lyranna's in sickbay, and commands him to forget about it afterwards. Petersen loses his free will, and agrees ...

Lyranna gives the antidote to Sivalyar but her survival is still too early to call. Petersen and Tor head to sickbay, where Petersen learns of Mariella's arrest.

Lyranna's research indicates that the Pathogen could have been administered any time within the last five days. When Tor arrives Lyranna argues with him about Mariella’s arrest, quoting the Romulan report.

Sivalyar is still dying. They fetch Mariella from the Brig to treat her. She tries injecting Dimethazine to boost her vascular system, but Sivalyar’s life signs stop. Lyranna and Mariella try to revive Sivalyar. The Bolian nurse announces that Mariella just injected as poison and Tor orders her removed from the medical team while e Lyranna fails to revive Sivalyar. Commander Tor orders Mariella's arrest on a charge of first degree murder.
